The 5 Best Sunday Roasts in West London

17 Nov 2021 Alex

With winter on our doorstep, you might find yourself being increasingly drawn to the idea of popping into a local pub for a hearty Sunday roast. And from traditional pub roasts to an elegant Sunday outing, there’s no shortage of options to choose from in West London.

We’ve got everything you need right here if you’re on the lookout for your next Sunday roast experience. These 5 options offer a brilliant Sunday roast in West London, and all of these locations are less than 20 minutes away from Quintain Living’s Wembley apartments. Read on to learn more.

The White Horse, Wembley

Our first recommended roast stop is right on the doorstep of the Quintain Living apartments. A recent addition to the already extensive range of pubs and bars in Wembley Park, The White Horse is part of the beloved Fullers network, and as such, offers some of the best Sunday roasts in the local area.

All of the roast meat is sourced from the UK, from Norfolk chicken with pork, apricot and chestnut stuffing, to South Coast pork loin with crackling, and bigger groups can also order a larger portion of whole roast chicken or sirloin of beef to share between them. What’s more, everything on the pub’s Sunday menu comes with all of the expected trimmings - from Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes to cauliflower cheese and red wine gravy.

The Princess Victoria, Shepherd’s Bush

There can be no denying that The Princess Victoria is as, well… elegant as its name suggests. Built nearly a hundred years ago as a gin palace of all things, the pub remains true to its history, offering almost a century of gin options. By comparison, the Sunday roasts from this welcoming and all-inclusive bar aren’t as widely known, but we really think they should be.

Put together with ingredients sourced exclusively from local producers, their Sunday roasts are 100% free-range. Served with trusty roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables, you’ll probably be torn between the roast beef, roast chicken with bread sauce, or a vegetarian nut roast with Yorkshire pudding. Expect to pay anywhere from £13 to £17 for a hearty portion, then walk it off with a stroll at Wendell Park when you’re well-fed, or alternatively, head back home to nap it off.

The Cleveland Arms, Paddington

Another pub that has been around for ages, The Cleveland Arms opened its doors all the way back in 1852. A popular fixture in the Paddington community, the pub is a local and tourist favourite pretty much all through the year. Classic, homely and inviting, this pub is open to anybody on the hunt for a pint and a good meal. Their Sunday roast menu is put together with some of the best seasonal ingredients in mind, suggesting that they are more popular for their Sunday roasts than most in the area. As such, you should definitely pre-book to guarantee a table when you arrive.

From roasted Suffolk chicken with cheesy leeks through to a spiced cauliflower vegetarian alternative, you’ll find a few modern twists on this menu. Don’t worry, you’ll still get roast potatoes, cabbage and some Yorkshire pud too, of course. Expect to pay anywhere from £16 to £18.50, but do be sure to leave room for dessert - the Cleveland Arms’ indulgent dark chocolate mousse with strawberries and honeycomb will leave you wanting to come back again and again.

Alice House, West Hampstead

A 10 minute tube ride from Wembley Park, Alice House in West Hampstead offers a cosy and casual feel whether you visit during the day, or at night. An ideal spot for a good chinwag with a friend, the warm atmosphere will probably encourage you to come back for brunch the next Saturday, or even to sample another roast a week later. Sure, you might commit to it the night before after a few cocktails… but honour your commitments to your friends, ok!

We love that Alice House’s Sunday roast menu is available “till it’s gone”, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more extensive menu elsewhere. From chicken to lamb and even mushroom pithivier options, you’ll still be paying a fair market price of between £15.50 to £18.50 regardless of what you order. Leave room for something from their long list of sides and desserts too. Camden Art Center is right around the corner and open until 6pm on Sundays, in case you want to swing by after to get your culture on.

Boxcar Butcher & Grill, Marylebone

Marylebone’s restaurants get rave reviews across the board, but there’s only one we’d single out for their Sunday roast offerings. Boxcar Butcher & Grill is locally run and proud to call itself an ethical restaurant that is all about high-quality, well, everything! They have two locations: one for their bakery and deli, the other for the bar and kitchen. Make sure you visit the latter, as otherwise you may have to end up with a loaf of bread instead of a Sunday roast.

From roast sirloin to slow-roasted pork belly and wild mushroom Wellington, the menu doesn’t disappoint, and each of their roasts is served with garlic and sage potatoes, and a hearty serving of seasonal vegetables. Expect to pay a similar price as elsewhere - from £15 to £19 - but be warned: it’s impossible to resist their sticky toffee pudding. Cap it off with an afternoon stroll to the nearby British Museum, and you’ve just lived out a perfect Sunday in London.
